Art Chat is a series of double interviews that feature two artists alongside one another. The interviews, although separate, are meant to reflect artists that have similar styles-- but different techniques and processes on deviantART. The interviews are meant to be read separately but at the same time, it's hoped that you'll be able to take double the advice out of this! These artists may be well known or hidden gems-- whatever the case, I'm hoping that these interviews will be both interesting and inspiring!

:bulletblue: So first off: How long have you been drawing?
:bulletyellow:I've been drawing for as long as I can remember - years before I even started school. My parents told me that I used to grab permanent markers as a toddler and I kept drawing all over the walls with them which did not make them happy! I haven't stopped since.

:bulletblue: What are your tools of trade?
:bulletyellow: I used to be a traditional artist using pencils, watercolours and acrylic paints to create my art up until just two or three years ago where I tried digital art for the first time. For digital art, I used to use Gimp for starters, but now I heavily use Corel Painter, which I would say is traditional art but all done on computer.

:bulletblue: What first inspired you to draw and what are the major inspirations behind your work?
:bulletyellow:I would have to say that my older brother was the one who got me into art in the first place during my early childhood years. He was in High School before I even started school and he would always draw cartoons (similar to Marvel's style) every afternoon and I used to always sit there and watch him draw. Video games are another huge factor behind my major inspirations in art.

:bulletblue: What is your artistic process? Do you start off with a sketch, or go straight to the finished product?
:bulletyellow: Sometimes when I have a clear idea of what I want to draw, I just go straight for it all on the one layer without a sketch or anything, because the finished product is already in my mind and I just want to create it for everyone else to see. I only use the thumbnail method for landscapes and environments when I want to see what each piece could look like when it's complete. For characters, beasts and people however, I use the sketch method since I have more control over shaping their faces and body posture.

:bulletblue: How long do you normally spend on your drawings?
:bulletyellow:As the years go by, I find that I am getting much faster with art than ever before. In the past, a digital art piece took me around almost a week to complete whereas now it only takes me a day or two on average. The same now goes with traditional art, but only when I am not using wet paint.

:bulletblue: Practice makes perfect! How do you practice?
:bulletyellow: I practice by sketching everyday. Time is very important to me, so I try to squeeze all of my spare time into my sketchbook where I will scribble or doodle weird ideas everywhere. This helps to constantly stimulate my imagination and mind. Experimenting and imagining is how I practice.

:bulletblue: On deviantART, who are your major inspirations? And for what reason?
:bulletyellow:I have three artists who are major inspirations to me since I first joined. They are sandara, michaelkutsche and sakimichan.

:bulletblue: Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?
:bulletyellow:My advice for aspiring artists out there is to "do it." If you believe that you can do it, and that you want to do it, then no one is going to stop you from doing it and it "will happen". If you have ideas, put them down somewhere. If you have the urge to create something, do it while the feeling still lasts. Treat time as a gift and use it wisely. Pretend that you're successful and act successful! Because it may even help you down the road and you could end up being successful!

:bulletblue: So, last question! For the future, what would you like to accomplish with your art? (This can be either professional or personal)
:bulletyellow: I have several dreams that I want to accomplish with my art. As a profession, I would love to be a freelance concept artist/illustrator for a major video game or movie company. I dream of having my art as their official artwork, on movie posters or on game covers and so forth. I even plan to create and illustrate my own children books in the near future to help kids with personal or family problems. For personal reasons, I just want to get better everyday and to see how far I can push myself.

:bulletblue:  So first off: How long have you been drawing?
:bulletyellow: Drawing was always been a hobby for me. I took it seriously about 3-4 years ago and started to practice every day to get better.

:bulletblue:  What are your tools of trade?
:bulletyellow: I use Wacom Bamboo for digital art mostly with Paint Tool SAI; Traditional: mechanical pencil and standard sketchbook paper.

:bulletblue:  What first inspired you to draw and what are the major inspirations behind your work?
:bulletyellow: My main inspiration source is my fiancé. He is an author: writing a roleplaying core book for a few years now. I will illustrate the book if i'll be satisfied with my level of skills. With a whole world and characters it is easy to stay inspired. We are always working together in the creative process.

:bulletblue: What is your artistic process? Do you start off with a sketch, thumbnails... or go straight to the finished product?
:bulletyellow: I don't usually plan my works. Since i am a very random person in real life too, it also applies to my drawing process. I do use sketches, but they tend to change in the drawing process a lot.

:bulletblue: How long do you normally spend on your drawings?
:bulletyellow: I try to spend more time with each piece. Drawing is mostly about patience. (and i am really impatient when it comes to drawing) Even simple portraits take about 15 hours (if they have details - like jewels and such)For complicated drawings (which i never really submitted yet) it would be an averige of 60hours i think.

:bulletblue: Practice makes perfect! How do you practice?
:bulletyellow: I try to draw every day. If i can't draw i still watch the world around me as i'd draw them. Observe the lighting, the edges of the objects and so on.

:bulletblue: On deviantART, who are your major inspirations? And for what reason?
:bulletyellow: I watch lots of art types. From photography to surrealism, mostly everything. I mostly look for technique, it is not important what the picture portrays. My favourite art style is Korean and Chinese semirealism.

:bulletblue: Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?
:bulletyellow: If you choose to be a professional artist, and you are not drawing just as a hobby, you will have to possess one thing only: determination.Drawing can be a lifestyle and it won't work with anything else. If you wish to be better you will have to sacrifice lots of things. (like social life :'D)Don't ever give up, always try to advance, and most importantly: enjoy drawing.

:bulletblue: So, last question! For the future, what would you like to accomplish with your art? (This can be either professional or personal)
:bulletyellow: Illustrate the RPG book; Write/draw my own stories as a comic; Achieve a high level of art
